Worcestersire paceman John Hastings was forced to bat with a runner because of a sore foot during his side’s first innings in the Specsavers County Championship match with Sussex at New Road.
The Australian paceman did not bowl on the second morning but struck a quickfire and valuable 34 with the bat in Worcestershire’s bid to avoid the follow-on after being accompanied back to the middle by Brett D’Oiveira.
Bowling coach Matt Mason said: “He has just got a bit of a sore foot. I think he is going to have a scan on it. We are not sure of the extent of it but he is pretty sore.
“It is his left foot so we just want to keep him off his feet as much as possible and just give it the best chance to settle down but we don’t now anymore than that at this stage.
“He did it yesterday.He came off feeling pretty sore. The physio (Ben Davies) had a look at it and it seemed pretty tender around the top of his foot.
“We’ve been a bit precautionary more than anything else until we find out some more.
“Will he bowl in the Susex second innings? I don’t know at this stage. We have to wait and see.
“The physio will let us know as soon as he knows anymore.”
