WORCESTERSHIRE IN “A GOOD PLACE” WITH YOUNG WICKET-KEEPING TALENT

Academy Coach Elliot Wilson believes Worcestershire are in “a good place for the next decade” with the depth of young wicket-keeping talent at the club if it continues to develop in a positive direction.

Joe Porter, Seth Essenhigh and Henry Cullen are all at different stages of their development at Visit Worcestershire New Road.

Porter, 15, is starting his second year on the Academy as part of their 2024-2025 intake and impressed at this summer’s Bunbury Festival with some crucial knocks.

Essenhigh,16, has made strides forward since first being part of the 2022-2023 intake and last summer made three Championship and six T20 appearances for the Seconds.

He scored 98 against a strong Middlesex side at Radlett and was then selected for the England Under-19s Tri-Series against Scotland and Ireland at Loughborough and scored his maiden half century at that level.

Former Academy product Cullen made his senior debut with four appearances in the 2022 One Day Cup and then one appearance in the 2024 Vitality Blast.

In September, he scored 234 against Northamptonshire at Dunstable, the highest score by a Worcestershire player in Second Eleven Championship cricket.

Wilson said: “To have Seth, Henry and Joe as keepers aged from 15 to 21 is quite exciting times for the club.

“It puts us in a good place for the next decade if they all develop as we think they might do.”

Cullen is playing in Australia for the second time in three winters, this time with Woodville CC, and scored he 66 on his first appearance.

It earned him a place in the South Australian Cricket Association first grade team pf the week.
