GIDMAN PRAISE FOR WILLINGNESS OF AUSTRALIAN SQUAD TO HELP COUNTY’S PLAYERS

GIDMAN PRAISE FOR WILLINGNESS OF AUSTRALIAN SQUAD TO HELP COUNTY’S PLAYERS

alex gidman has praised the australian players for their willingness to talk with and pass on “golden nuggets” of advice to the worcestershire squad during the three-day tour match at New Road which ended in a draw today.

first team coach gidman said the county’s players, particularly the younger members of the team, will have reaped the benefits of chatting with top internationals of many years standing.

he believes their cricketing education will have only been broadened by such experiences.

gidman said: “we will take a lot out of the game as a group and as a club.

“firstly, i think it was a great occasion for the club and the lads conducted themselves really, really well.

“the australians were fantastic to our team, in terms of off the pitch and being open to our lads talking to them and trying to learn and help our young players in particular.

“we really encouraged our boys to go and talk to them. these guys have played in world cups, ashes, been international cricketers for a long time.

“you’d be absolutely crazy not to sit down with them for five-ten minutes and ask them a couple of questions which some of our lads did.

“if anything comes out of these sorts of fixtures, it’s about learning and trying to improve and wanting at some stage to try and get to the levels these guys are at.

“if a couple of our lads have taken some golden nuggets of information from them as a group and as individuals, then what a great success.

“it was a great couple of days from my point of view and everyone associated with the club.”
