Worcestershire Academy duo Adam Finch and Jack Haynes played a major part in England Under-19s defeating their South Africa counterparts by four wickets to win the second ‘Test’ at Emirates Riverside and seal the series 2-0.
Finch followed up his four wickets in the first innings with another four as South Africa, who had a first innings lead of 76, were bowled out for 90.
His return of 8.4-0-22-4 gave him the superb match figures of 30-6-69-8.
For good measure, he had also showed his determination with the bat in England’s first innings in making an unbeaten 16 from 82 balls in 138 minutes.
Haynes, who is making his Under-19s debut in this series, made 27 in England’s second innings to follow his 28 first time around.
They were vital runs in the context of a relatively low scoring game and represented the highest aggregate in the game by an England Under-19 batsman.
He went in at 4-2 and put on a crucial 61 with skipper Tom Banton (34) to steady the innings. Then useful contributions all down the order saw England home.
England were bowled out for 133 in their first innings and then Finch took the new ball when South Africa batted again.
But it was when he returned to the attack that he made a big impact by taking the last four wickets in the space of just 12 balls as South Africa folded from 82-6 to 90 all out in 36.4 overs.
Finch and Haynes will now link up England for the ODI Series between the two countries.
