Seth Essenhigh came within two runs of a maiden century for Worcestershire Seconds and there were seven wickets for spinner Tom Hinley in the six wicket Championship setback against Middlesex at Radlett.
Keeper-batter Essenhigh came in at number five on the opening day and dominated the remainder of the innings.
The 16-year-old, part of the 2023-2024 Academy intake, shared in stands of 57, 46 and 65 with Hinley (36), triallist Seb Allison (18) and Harry Darley (15 not out) respectively.
Essenhigh faced 180 balls and struck two sixes and 10 fours as Worcestershire recovered from 130-6 to 315 all out from 89 overs after winning the toss.
Number three Dan Lategan had earlier scored 65 off 88 deliveries with three sixes and two fours and added 63 for the third wicket with Henry Cullen.
Middlesex closed day one on 37-0 and batted all of the second day to score 454 all out off 99 overs.
The game was in the balance at 166-4 but then Vaansh Jani (128) figured in two century partnerships.
Hinley, who played all nine games for the Rapids in the Metro Bank One Day Cup, finished with 4-78 from 20 overs, triallist seamer George O’Connor 3-76, also from 20 overs, and Harry Darley 2-44.
Worcestershire, trailing by 139 on first innings, reached 118-2 after Rehaan Edavalath (49) and Cullen (60) put on 85 for the third wicket.
They then slipped to 186-8 before the last two wickets added 69 with Jack Home, who was last out for 37, being given useful support by Darley (20) and Sam Keeling-Wright (24 not out including three sixes).
Middlesex needed 117 for victory and three more wickets for Hinley (5-0-21-3) and one for Keeling-Wright meant they ended day three on 68-4 before completing victory on the fourth morning for no further loss of wickets.
Hinley ended with match figures of 7-117.
