Encouraging fitness update for Club Captain Brett D’Oliveira

Worcestershire Club Captain, Brett D’Oliveira, is stepping up rehab work on his shoulder with Head Coach Alan Richardson optimistic he will be in “a really good place” for the finale to the season in the Vitality County Championship.

D’Oliveira initially suffered the setback at the tail-end of last summer and, despite winter surgery, has continued to be troubled by the problem and often played through the pain barrier.

But Richardson said the signs are now a lot more encouraging and D’Oliveira is being put through his paces to ensure he is in the best possible condition for five Championship games in late August-September.

Richardson said: “Since the operation he has had a frozen shoulder which we really couldn’t do much about but now is getting in a lot of good rehab work.

“It is now what they call defrosting and it’s an opportunity for him to get some good work done and to put himself into a really good place going into the back end of the season.

“It has been painful throughout the season and he’s done an amazing job to get through as much cricket as he has done.

“Medically this little gap now, where it is defrosting, is the best opportunity to get it back closer to a fully functioning shoulder again.

“He puts his body on the line more often than not and obviously takes great pride in playing for Worcestershire.”
