DILLON “CAN’T WAIT” FOR ARRIVAL OF MATTHEW WADE AND TO LEARN OFF AUSTRALIAN STAR

Dillon Pennington “can’t wait” for Matthew Wade to link up with Worcestershire CCC as a 2022 overseas player and to dip into his vast experience to help him become a better player.

Pennington believes Wade, currently in ICC T20 World Cup action for Australia, will be a significant asset for Worcestershire in all game formats.

The wicket-keeper-batsman, who helped Australia defeat South Africa in their opening T20 game in Abu Dhabi, is available for the bulk of the summer and bringing his family over for the six-month campaign.

Paceman Pennington, who recently signed a contract extension at New Road, said: “I can’t wait for him to come. I think it will be brilliant.

“I think he will be an excellent addition in all formats, and as a leader, really.

“He will be excellent around the group for the younger lads like myself to try and pick his brains and learn off him in terms of the experiences he’s had in cricket.

“I think that is vital. I’ve always said I love picking into people’s brains about their experiences and using them to get better, and he is top quality.

“Watching him on the TV, he looks pretty fierce and competitive, which I think will be an excellent addition to our squad.”

Pennington says it is also beneficial having an overseas player for a long stint.

He said: “We are a good bunch to come to as an overseas player, for whatever the length of a spell, but it will be nice for him to be with us for a lengthy period.

“He will be able to get to know people and really dive into the environment and what we aim to do over next season, and hopefully that will help us out.”
