Worcestershire keeper-batter, Henry Cullen, is celebrating clinching promotion with his winter club, Woodville, in Australia.
Cullen had travelled back to Visit Worcestershire New Road last week after amassing 592 runs at average of 74 – the second highest overall tally in the South Australian Cricket Association Premier Cricket first grade Division Two.
But he had a close eye on Woodville this weekend and in their final two-day group match they made sure of going up, scoring 218 in 86 overs on Saturday and bowling out SACA Under-19s for 166 in 71.1 overs on Sunday.
A delighted Cullen said: “I’m so pleased for the lads and the great way to finish a really good winter.
“It’s gone really well from a cricketing point of view and I feel like I’ve really learn a lot, having that time in the middle, and also developing my game in between matches also.
“But it’s also been great to be part of a great bunch of people and now I’m really looking forward to the new season with Worcestershire.
“Experiences like this winter can only be beneficial and it’s great that so many of the Worcestershire lads have done so well this winter.”
Worcestershire all-rounder Tom Taylor will have to wait until next Saturday to see if he is going to lift his second Victorian Cricket Association trophy of the winter because of rain on Sunday.
Taylor, who also returned to England last week, played a major role in Altona North winning the VCA T20 competition and also reaching the final of the two-day first grade final this weekend against Sunshine.
Altona were in the driving seat after day one, scoring 177 and then reducing Sunshine to 45-5 but no play was possible on Sunday and now the reserve day will come into play on March 22.
Gareth Roderick ended a prolific winter by making 41 for Green Point in their Western Province Premier Division encounter against Decofurn Durbanville.
Skipper Roderick lifted his final run tally to 845 at an average of 50, the highest run tally in the league.
He opened and faced 77 balls, putting on 51 for the fourth wicket with Luke Holland (70), before he was caught and bowled and fourth out with the total on 99.
Green Point were bowled out for 203 in 49 overs and Durbanville won by four wickets with 4.2 overs to spare.
Roderick flew back on Sunday (March 16) to prepare for the new season with Worcestershire.
