Henry Cullen and Ollie Walker hit centuries and then Ben Parker delivered a four wicket blast as Worcestershire Academy dominated the opening day of the ECB Under-18 County Championship match with Cricket Wales at Abergavenny.
Keeper-batter Cullen and Walker shared in a fourth wicket partnership of 258 in 42 overs as the Academy amassed 431-4 declared from 81.5 overs after opting to bat.
Parker then reduced Cricket Wales to 45-5 from 22 overs by the close.
Rehaan Edavalath, a century-maker in last week’s Group Two win over Northamptonshire at Kidderminster, and Olly Cox laid the foundations during a second wicket stand of 89.
Edavalath was second out with the total on 112 after making 55 off 95 balls with 10 fours.
Cox added 61 with Cullen before he was dismissed for 75 off 78 balls, with one six and 13 boundaries.
Cullen and Walker then joined forces and gradually upped the tempo after reaching their half centuries off 72 and 82 balls respectively.
Walker needed only another 31 balls to go to three figures and Cullen a further 43.
The partnership was broken when Walker fell for 132 off 127 balls with three sixes and 16 fours, leaving Cullen undefeated on 147 from 164 deliveries with two sixes and 19 fours.
Parker destroyed the Cricket Wales top order with the new ball and had figures of 7-4-8-4.
