Worcestershire wicket-keeper-batsman Alex Milton was denied the chance to complete a century by the weather when captaining Cardiff MCCU in the MCC Universities Championship match with Leeds-Bradford MCCU at Weetwood today.
Milton was unbeaten on 94 at the end of day one of the two-day fixture as Cardiff MCCU amassed 455-4 in 103 overs after electing to bat.
He had been considering declaring overnight with such a large total on the board and had been persuaded by the coach and his team-mates to go back in for a couple of overs this morning to try and get to three figures.
But sadly the heavens opened to deny Milton the opportunity to reach three figures and also Cardiff MCCU the chance to try and bowl out their opponents.
He had also scored 108 not out against Leeds-Bradford last summer at Usk in addition to 102 against host side Loughborough MCCU.
Milton, who signed his first professional contract with Worcestershire at the end of last season, went to the wicket in the current fixture at 292-2 in the 82nd over.
He proceeded to hit his 94 not out off just 60 deliveries with one six and 13 fours.
Milton went to his half century off 38 balls and shared in a fourth wicket stand of 80 with AJ Woodland. But bad light cut off the finale to the day.
Milton enjoyed a record-breaking season for Cardiff CC in the South Wales Premier Cricket League last summer, scoring more than 1,000 runs, but in 2018 is to play for Port Talbot.
