COUNTY AIMING TO CONTINUE IMPRESSIVE PRE-SEASON FORM AT CHESTER ROAD

Worcestershire CCC Head Coach Alex Gidman will be looking for a continuation of the County’s impressive early pre-season form in the three-day encounter with Durham UCCE beginning at Chester Road, Kidderminster tomorrow.

The opening pair of Daryl Mitchell and Jake Libby, all-rounder Brett D’Oliveira and wicket-keeper batsman Ben Cox will make their first appearances of 2021.

There were plenty of encouraging signs with bat and ball during the two-day fixture with Somerset at Taunton.

Gidman said: “The guys have worked extremely hard throughout the winter, and their attitude has been exceptional.

“I thought we played well at Taunton, and it was a great start to our pre-season.

“We did a lot of things right, and it gave the group a lot of confidence, and the guys who didn’t play last week are looking forward to having their crack at things.

“Because we had the extra fixture last week, it is an opportunity to make sure everyone has a game before we move through the gears.

“We will crack on with it tomorrow and try and make it as good an opportunity for both teams.”

Gidman added: “It’s excellent that Durham can come down and bring a team. Some of their boys haven’t had much opportunity to practice and play due to COVID-19.

“It should be good for everyone, and looking forward to getting another fixture under the belt.”
