Worcestershire have suffered an injury setback with spinner Shaaiq Choudhry out of action for three to four weeks.
Choudhry is side-lined after suffered a broken thumb while playing club cricket at the weekend.
Worcestershire Director of Cricket Steve Rhodes said: "It is disappointing for him and I feel sorry for him because he put in a lot of work in during the winter and pre-season in obviously looking for a big year.
"He was bowling and the ball got hit back at him and just chipped the end of his thumb."
"These things happen in cricket with a hard ball – thumbs, fingers, they get broken, and the good thing is it's not in the joints."
"We're very optimistic hopefully we can get him back playing in three to four weeks but we'll play it a week at a time and it's a shame for him."
The left armer played in the county's 125 run win over Kent in the LV County Championship at New Road last week.
Choudhry pulled off a stunning catch at mid-wicket during Kent's second innings to dismiss Darren Stevens off the bowling of Gareth Andrew.
He featured in last week's second eleven friendly against Somerset at Taunton, claiming three wickets in the first innings.
Choudhry had been scheduled to play in the Second Eleven Trophy match away to Derby tomorrow before suffering the setback.
The 28-year-old was replaced by Pakistan spinner Saeed Ajmal in the Worcestershire side for the current County Championship match with Derbyshire at New Road.
