CENTRAL SPARKS BACK IN ACTION AT NEW ROAD IN RACHAEL HEYHOE FLINT TROPHY

Central Sparks will be back in action at New Road tomorrow as they look for an upturn in fortunes in their Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy group match against Lightning (10.30am start).

Sparks are currently lying in sixth spot in the eight-team table with one win from their opening four matches.

They defeated Western Storm but were beaten by Southern Vipers, Northern Diamonds – also at New Road – and Thunder.

Sparks have three games remaining and take on South East Stars at Beckenham on Sunday (September 11) before returning to New Road for their final group game versus Sunrisers on Saturday, September 17.

Three members of the Sparks squad, spinner Sarah Glenn, pace bowler Issy Wong and keeper-batter Amy Jones, are part of the England squad for the Vitality IT20 Series against India which gets underway on Saturday.

Lightning have also won one of their first four matches and are lying in seventh position.

Teams earn four points for a win plus a bonus point if their run rate is 1.25 or greater than that of their opponents.

The winners of the group go straight through to the Lord’s final on September 25 with the teams finishing second and third playing off on September 21 to decide who meets them.

Admission is free to all Worcestershire Members and £5 adults and £1 juniors.
