BARNARD LIFTS COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP RUN TALLY PAST 600 MARK FOR WORCESTERSHIRE

Ed Barnard’s massive strides forward with the bat for Worcestershire CCC this summer are reflected in the LV=Insurance County Championship averages.

The all-rounder’s two fighting knocks of 25 and 44 against Kent at Canterbury lifted his tally for the summer past the 600 mark.

He has amassed 666 runs at an impressive average of 55.50, firstly batting at number eight and then moving up the order to number six.

Only Jake Libby has scored more runs than Barnard and he needs only 24 more to complete 1,000 for the campaign.

On the bowling front, Joe Leach’s nine wickets against Sussex in the win at New Road last week means he has become Worcestershire’s leading wicket-taker with 27 scalps this summer.

His two fine innings of 38 and 49 not out against Kent also lifted him to fourth in the batting averages.

It has been a challenging time for bowlers with some of the flat wickets that have been played on in 2021 and Dillon Pennington (21) is the next highest wicket-taker behind Leach.

His total was also boosted by nine wickets in one match, against Derbyshire at New Road.
