BARNARD ADMITS BLAST DERBY IS “MASSIVE” AS RAPIDS LOOK TO SEAL QUARTER-FINAL SPOT

Ed Barnard admits tonight’s Vitality Blast derby encounter with Birmingham Bears at Edgbaston is “massive” as Worcestershire Rapids look to seal a quarter-final spot.

Victory would clinch a place in the last eight with a game to spare ahead of Sunday evening’s away meeting with Leicestershire Foxes.

Back to back wins over Derbyshire Falcons, and then in the first clash with the Bears, have put the destiny of the Rapids in their own hands.

Barnard said: “Friday night is massive, huge. We’ve played really well the last couple of weeks to get ourselves in this position where we need to win at least one of two.

“There was a time after a couple of losses last week when it looked like we may be struggling, but we’ve turned that around.

“Friday is huge. It’s a local derby game. We did well against the Bears on Friday, and hopefully, we can do the double over them.

“They had a slightly different side last week to what they may have this week, but they’ve still got some high-quality players, so it was an excellent performance.

“We’ve beaten some good sides all through this tournament and there is no reason why we can’t go there and get the win.”
