Worcestershire Academy player Seth Essenhigh has lifted a prestigious award in winning the 2024 Cricket Society Sir Jack Hobbs Silver Memorial Prize.
The award is given to the youngster chosen as the most promising Under-16 Schoolboy Cricketer in England.
Essenhigh has been nominated by the Secretary of the English Schools Cricket Association.
Keeper-batter Essenhigh joins an list of illustrious past winners including Mike Atherton, Mike Gatting and Mark Ramprakash plus current players Jacob Bethell, Farhan Ahmed, Sam Northeast, Haseeb Hameed and Dom Sibley.
Jack Hobbs played for Surrey from 1905-1934 and was known as ‘The Master’ after averaging 67 in his 61 Tests and scoring the most ever first class runs – 61,760 – and hundreds – 199.
Essenhigh has been a prolific run-scorer at King’s School Worcester and Worcestershire Academy level and scored 98 for Worcestershire Seconds against Middlesex at Radlett.
He ended the campaign being picked for an England Under-19 Tri-Series against Scotland and Ireland at Loughborough.
Worcestershire Academy Coach, Elliot Wilson, said: “Seth has had a really exciting summer in the way he has played the game which pricks your attention as a watcher, coach or a supporter.
“He is very aggressive and forceful but not reckless.
“To have that at a very early age is quite exciting. I’m not surprised he has been identified within this award category.”
The Cricket Society Awards Ceremony will be held on November 7 at the Union Jack Club in London with Richard Thompson, Chair of the ECB, presenting the awards.
Also attending is former England and Gloucestershire wicket-keeper Jack Russell.
