ACADEMY JOINT TOP OF ECB COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP AFTER EVITTS HITS CENTURY

Reeve Evitts hit an unbeaten century as Worcestershire Academy fought out a draw with Northamptonshire at Desborough CC which leaves the two teams joint top of the ECB Under-18 County Championship Group Two.

Evitts came to the wicket in Worcestershire’s innings at 53-2 and battled away to 235 balls in scoring an 102 not out with 16 boundaries.

He received excellent support from Luke Powell who made 64 not out off 143 deliveries with eight fours.

The pair joined forces at 143-5 and lifted the total to 260-5 before the declaration with Worcestershire 299 ahead and Northamptonshire reached 69-2 from 19 overs when the two sides shook hands.

There were some other excellent performances by Worcestershire players in the three-day match after they won the toss and elected to bat.

Olly Cox was full of attacking intent and struck 90 off 94 balls with two sixes and 13 fours and he shared in stands of 84 with fellow opener and captain Joe Stanley (39) and 69 with Ollie Walker (27).

Louis Hursthouse then came within one run of a maiden century for the Academy before he was caught behind.

He hit 12 fours in his 183 ball innings and added 95 with Seth Essenhigh (45) and 73 with Powell (35) before the declaration at 361-9 from 95.5 overs.

The new ball combination of Stanley (21.1-4-70-3) and Harry Darley (14-5-36-2) were the most successful bowlers for Worcestershire when the home side replied with 322-8 from 86.1 overs before declaring 39 behind.

Darley picked up one wicket in the brief period of play in Northamptonshire’s second innings.

Northamptonshire finished with 13 points and Worcestershire 12 and both sides have a total of 46 points from their first three games.

Worcestershire are next in action in another ECB Under-18 County Championship three-day fixture against Cricket Wales at Kidderminster beginning on Tuesday (August 15).
