ACADEMY BEGIN BID FOR MORE GLORY IN ECB 50 OVER COMPETITION

Worcestershire Academy (Under-18s) will launch their bid for more success in knockout cricket when they take on Shropshire in the ECB Under-18 Knockout Cup at Bridgnorth today (Sunday).

The Academy reached the final of the Birmingham and District Premier League Graham Williamson Trophy earlier in the season, progressing through three rounds before losing to Smethwick in the final at New Road.

Their side includes Ismael Mohammed who hit a match-saving 63 not out for Worcestershire Seconds in their Championship match with Warwickshire at Portland Road, Edgbaston earlier in the week.

Joe Stanley will captain Worcestershire with play getting underway at 11am and the winners will face Warwickshire, conquerors of Staffordshire last weekend, in the next round.

Three Worcestershire players will be in action for Herefordshire in their opening National Counties Championship Western Division One three-day match with Dorset at Eastnor beginning today (Sunday).

Josh Dell, Olly Walker and Henry Cullen are part of a Herefordshire side captained by former Worcestershire batter, Matt Pardoe.

Another Worcestershire player in Ben Gibbon will be playing for Cheshire in their Western Division One game against Oxfordshire at Alderley Edge, also starting today (Sunday).

It will be Gibbon’s first game for Cheshire since he took five wickets on the same ground against Wiltshire last August and which led to him being recommended to Worcestershire and signing a pro contract.

The quartet are able to play as Worcestershire Seconds do not have a game during the forthcoming week.
