Worcestershire’s new signing, spinner Fateh Singh, is to spend the second part of the winter playing grade cricket in Melbourne.
The 20-year-old has joined up with Melbourne based side, Canterbury CC, and will play in the Eastern Cricket Association competition.
Singh confirmed he is due to make his debut next weekend – subject to obtaining his visa – on what will be the second day of a two-dayer, against Old Carey CC.
He recently signed a three-year contract with Worcestershire until the end of the 2027 season after an initial successful spell on loan from Nottinghamshire in the Metro Bank One Day Cup last summer.
Worcestershire pace bowler Harry Darley picked up two wickets during his first bowl of the winter for Ulverstone in the abandoned match Cricket North West first grade match against Launceston.
Darley had played purely as a batter in the opening five fixtures of the winter while he recovered from a glute injury.
But he needed only three deliveries to make his presence felt with the ball after Ulverstone had totalled 253-9 in their 50 overs.
Darley trapped opener Archie Wilkinson lbw for nought and then also dismissed Launceston captain Will Bennett (16) with the third ball of his fifth over.
He delivered an opening spell of 5-0-18-2 but the heavens opened with Launceston 43-5 from 12.2 overs.
Gareth Roderick again top-scored for Green Point CC who defeated Claremont CC by 37 runs in a Western Province Premier Division encounter.
It helped his side achieve their third win in seven 50 over games during the current campaign.
Skipper Roderick went in at number four and made 43 off 62 balls with three boundaries. It lifted his run tally this winter to 469 from seven innings at an average of 67.
He came in at 15-2 and was seventh out with the total 114 as Green Point were bowled out for 149 in 40.4 overs.
Claremont reached 36-1 but then lost wickets at regular intervals in reply and were bowled out for 112 in 37.3 overs.
Ed Pollock made 19 off 13 balls with a six and two fours as St. George CC triumphed via the Duckworth-Lewis Method against Manly Warringah in a New South Wales Limited Overs Cup round three fixture.
Pollock batted at number three as St. George reached 160-4 from 32 overs in reply to Many Warringhah’s 198 all out in 42.1 overs.
Henry Cullen, who hit two half centuries last weekend, was dismissed for two after opening for Woodville but they achieved a resounding 92 run win over Southern District in a South Australian Cricket Association Premier Cricket T20 round two encounter.
Woodville totalled 161-6 and then dismissed their opponents for 69 in 15.2 overs with Cullen taking one catch.
Cullen also made two in another mid-week T20 clash and his side were bowled out for 50 in 12.4 overs in a 122 run defeat against Tea Tree Gully (172-7).
