RICHARDSON: OPPORTUNITY TO FILL GAP LEFT BY RETIRED JOE LEACH

Worcestershire Head Coach Alan Richardson says it is “someone else’s opportunity” to fill the gap left by the retired Joe Leach on and off the field.

Leach has hung up his spikes after being the leader of the Worcestershire attack for the past decade with a haul of 469 first class wickets for the County.

The all-rounder also made a massive impact as a highly respected member of the dressing room, imparting his vast experience and knowledge.

Richardson said: “I look at it. There are two folds with Joe or any player in terms of replacing them. There is the stuff they do on and off the pitch.

“I think it is really important for us to have a look at what our bowling attack looks like without Joe.

“We’ve got Ben Allison coming in and I think Tom Taylor did really well and he had some real challenges thrown at it throughout the season as well.

“But he has come out of it better and stronger still, so that’s exciting for him, and the big one for me is how we manage the changing room without Joe.

“I think he has taught a few of them some really good lessons, which is great, and the boys no doubt will carry on that.

“We just have to look at it slightly differently. Since making his debut in 2012, Joe has played a lot of cricket and had a huge impact on the field so now it is someone else’s opportunity to do that.”

Worcestershire report back for pre-season training at Malvern next Monday.
