HINLEY AND CULLEN LEADING WICKET-TAKER AND RUN-SCORER FOR SECONDS IN CHAMPIONSHIP

New signing Tom Hinley and keeper-batter Henry Cullen finished as Worcestershire’s leading wicket-taker and run-scorer respectively in Second Eleven Championship cricket this summer.

Left arm spinner Hinley ended with 16 wickets from just four matches in the four-day competition with a best of 4-78 against Middlesex at Radlett.

It followed on from Hinley also being Worcestershire’s top wicket-taker in the Seconds ECB T20 competition with eight victims.

He then went onto play for Worcestershire Rapids in the Metro Bank One Day Cup and his 13 wickets included a five-for against Durham at Visit Worcestershire New Road.

Hinley earlier this month signed a one year rookie contract with Worcestershire for the 2025 season.

He is also studying for a Sports Science degree at Loughborough University.

Harry Darley was second to Hinley with 14 Championship wickets and he played all seven SEC matches.

The pace bowler, who signed a rookie contract in February, also went onto play for the Rapids in the Vitality Blast and One Day Cup.

Cullen totalled 437 runs at an average of 62.43 and his 234 against Northamptonshire at Dunstable last week was the highest individual score by a Worcestershire player in SEC cricket.

He hit two other half centuries but the reduced fixture list and poor weather meant he had only seven knocks in the SEC during this summer.

Rehaan Edavalath was the next highest scorer with 297 runs at 59.40 and he was a model of consistency with four half centuries in just seven innings.

Edavalath scored 56 not out against Leicestershire, 50 not out versus Somerset, 52 against Warwickshire and 66 off the Northamptonshire attack plus 49 against Middlesex.

Like Hinley, Edavalath is also studying at Loughborough University – for a degree in chemical engineering.
