LATEGAN TOPS 500 RUNS FOR ACADEMY IN COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP

Worcestershire batter Dan Lategan finished as one of the top four leading run-scorers in the 2024 ECB Under-18 County Championship.

The Cape Town born left hander amassed 527 runs in eight innings in a competition where the Worcestershire Academy (Under-18) side remained unbeaten.

Lategan produced an outstanding performance to hit two centuries against Somerset – 165 and 102 not out – at Taunton Vale.

In addition he struck 72 versus Gloucestershire at Dumbleton CC plus 71 against Northamptonshire at Bromsgrove School.

Only Leicestershire’s Caleb Falconer (670), Middlesex’s Jay Madan (600) and Durham’s Callum Gaffney (548) scored more runs than Lategan in the Championship.

The 18-year-old has also appeared for Worcestershire Seconds this season and made 65 against Middlesex Seconds in a Championship match at Radlett.

Lategan plays for Kidderminster in the Birmingham and District Premier League and also been part of the Worcestershire Under-18 side in the Vitality T20 tournament.

Worcestershire keeper-batter Seth Essenhigh, currently in action for the England Under-19 side in a Tri-Series at Loughborough, picked up 13 catches in the Championship – the fourth highest in the competition.
