Boycott and Bertwistle take honours with bat and ball for Women’s Rapids

Worcestershire Women’s Rapids finished in second spot in the ECB County Championship T20 Group Two competition.

The Rapids are credited with 93 points in the final table after defeating Lincolnshire and Norfolk in their final two matches at Bourne CC at the weekend.

They won five of their eight games and finished six points behind Warwickshire (99) who were the group winners.

The Rapids had finished in third spot in the ECB County Championship 50 over tournament earlier in the campaign.

Clare Boycott finished as the Rapids run scorer with 246 at an average of 41.00 spanning the two competitions.

She was followed by Bryony Gillgrass (233), Imogen Hill (160) and captain Chloe Hill (158) whose appearances were restricted because of her involvement with South East Stars.

On the bowling front, spinners Flora Bertwistle and Phoebe Brett took most of the honours for the Rapids.

Bertwistle ended with figures of 52.2-4-175-19 at an average of 9.21.

Brett picked up 18 wickets at a cost of just 5.67 runs apiece and her final analysis was 35-4-102-18.

Next summer Worcestershire will be competing with nine other counties in Tier 2 of the ECB’s revamped women’s domestic cricket structure.
