CLUB CAPTAIN BRETT D’OLIVEIRA SIGNS LENGTHY CONTRACT EXTENSION

Worcestershire Cricket Club are thrilled to announce that Brett D’Oliveira, the Club Captain, has committed to the team through the end of the 2027 season with a significant contract extension.

D’Oliveira, instrumental in leading Worcestershire to promotion in last summer’s County Championship, had a year left on his existing contract but has eagerly extended it by three additional seasons.

At 31, D’Oliveira feels his prime years are still ahead and is eager to continue his successful journey with Worcestershire. Despite battling a shoulder injury in the latter part of the 2023 season, he was pivotal in securing Worcestershire’s place in Division One of the Championship.

He scored a memorable century to take the County to within one run of the two bonus points needed in the final game against Yorkshire at Headingley to secure promotion.

Reflecting on his new contract, D’Oliveira expressed, “It’s fantastic to sign the new contract and really grateful to the club.

“It was special to lead the side to promotion and gives you the hunger for more of the same thing.

“Going into Division One presents a different challenge, a tougher challenge, but one I know the group are looking forward to, and so am I.

“I actually do feel some of my best years are ahead of me. I don’t feel 31 going on 32 which is great.

“I still feel 18, probably the biggest kid within the group, and that banter and being with the boys, I still absolutely love it.

“I’ve got so much more to give, and so many more years to play hopefully, and let’s just concentrate on these four years, but hopefully there is a bit more after that as well.”

Alan Richardson, Worcestershire’s Head Coach, expressed his satisfaction with D’Oliveira’s extension, “We’re delighted that Dolly is continuing with us.

“His influence extends beyond the field, bringing enthusiasm, energy, and leadership to the team. He’s a vital player for us, especially as we face the challenges of Division One cricket.”

D’Oliveira has been a cornerstone of Worcestershire cricket since his List A debut in 2011 and subsequent County Championship and T20 debuts in 2012.

He has made over 300 appearances in all formats, scoring 5069 first-class runs at an average of 32.70, along with significant contributions in T20 and List A matches. His leg spin has also earned him a combined total of 220 wickets across all formats.
