SECONDS LOOK TO END CHAMPIONSHIP CAMPAIGN ON A HIGH NOTE

Worcestershire Seconds will be looking to continue their excellent form when they complete their 2023 Championship programme against Somerset at Taunton Vale beginning tomorrow (Monday 11).

The Seconds have won five of their last six Championship matches, including last week’s three day triumph over Nottinghamshire at Kidderminster.

Jack Haynes and Kashif Ali, part of the Worcestershire which overcame Glamorgan in the LV=Insurance County Championship at New Road, are included in the squad.

Ed Pollock will again captain the Seconds with Henry Cullen keeping wicket.

Assistant Coach Richard Jones said: “The win over Nottinghamshire was a really good learning curve and performance because we won in a different way to the other wins we’ve had this year, dealing with the extremely hot weather.

“We rode our luck a little bit to be honest, which you need sometimes in a four day game, but you rarely get something that you don’t deserve and we won quite convincingly in the end.

“The lads are in good spirits and there is a really good morale around the group, and around the club as a whole, with the first team boys on top form.

“We are getting to the business end of the season with there a lot to play for and it’s an exciting time for all of us. Hopefully we can finish with a good performance at Taunton.”
