Jake Libby says Worcestershire are targeting silverware as they prepare for the climax to the 2023 season.
Libby, the captain of the Metro Bank One Day Cup side, is delighted with the cricket played by Worcestershire in all three formats this summer.
They are lying second in Division Two of the LV=Insurance County Championship, reached the quarter-finals of the Vitality Blast and head into Friday’s One Day Cup match with Derbyshire Falcons at the Incora County Ground in the top three.
Libby said: “We’ve played really good cricket in all three formats to be honest. We’ve been really good this year.
“We’re at the business end of the season now and, we’re not scared to say it, we want to win some trophies this year.
“At this stage it’s about taking it a game at a time. It’s a massive game on Friday at Derby and we will be focused on that one.
“We can only control what we can which is to put in the best performances and try and get the wins.
“I think it’s just trying to back up these performances. It’s going to be two big games and we’re right in the frame for knockout cricket.”
Libby is on the crest of a wave after becoming a father earlier this week and on the pitch he continued his good form by hitting an unbeaten 81 in the One-Day Cup win over Northamptonshire Steelbacks at Wantage Road.
He said: “Becoming a dad is pretty special, so I’ve had a bit of a whirlwind three days, a couple of sleepless nights, and obviously to top it off with a win at Northampton was fantastic.
“Pleased to just keep contributing. I’ve stayed relatively consistent all season and hitting the ball nicely.
“Hopefully there is a big finish, still a lot of cricket to play, and that I maintain that sort of form.
Libby was delighted to see new signing Rob Jones back up a series of promising scores with his maiden century for the Rapids against the Steelbacks.
He said: “Rob played really well. He went through the gears beautifully in his innings and then towards the end really took the pressure off.
“We lost two relatively quick wickets, so it was a fantastic knock under pressure.
“I saw my role as trying to be there at the end, try and stay as close to a run a ball as possible.
“When Rob got his hundred I just said ‘great start’ and I’m really pleased for him.
“He’s been really consistent, had a lot of 30s and 40s, been unlucky with a couple of run outs and he has played that anchor role at three really well and deserved the hundred.”
