DARLEY AND WALKER SHINE AS ACADEMY GAIN INNINGS VICTORY

Harry Darley and Ollie Walker took the honours with ball and bat as Worcestershire Academy defeated local rivals Warwickshire by an innings and 51 runs in a ECB Under-18 County Championship fixture at Portland Road, Edgbaston.

Darley had made his senior debut for Worcestershire in the National Counties Showcase Game with Shropshire at Shrewsbury and picked up three wickets and he was again in fine form when returning to Academy action.

The pace bowler had match figures of 18.5-7-32-7 as Warwickshire were bowled out for 58 and then 69 after electing to bat.

Walker had the distinction of scoring the only half century of the game in Worcestershire’s first innings total of 178 all out in 65.2 overs.

In Warwickshire’s first innings, Darley (8.5-5-7-4), Charlie Egerton (7-3-9-2), Joe Stanley (4-1-6-2), Jack Home (5-1-15-1) and Walker (6-2-16-1) were the wicket-takers.

Worcestershire were themselves 6-2 in reply but Olly Cox (35) and Walker added 71 for the third wicket.

Walker went onto make 57 off 122 balls with nine fours and put on 49 for the fourth wicket with Reeve Evitts (38) who also made important runs.

When Warwickshire batted for the second time, Home (8-3-21-4) and Darley (10-2-25-3) inflicted most of the damage.

Stanley (1-1-0-1), Walker (4-2-3-1) and Egerton (2-0-11-1) picked up one wicket apiece.

Worcestershire collected a total of 21 points – 16 for a win, four for bowling and one for batting – to add to the 13 accumulated in last week’s drawn game with Somerset at Barnt Green.
