WORCESTERSHIRE STAGE GALA DINNER IN HONOUR OF CHARLIE MORRIS

Worcestershire will pay tribute to fast bowler Charlie Morris’s exceptional service over the past decade at New Road by hosting a gala dinner in the Chestnut Marquee on Friday, 1st September.

Morris played a crucial role in Worcestershire’s promotion to Division One of the County Championship in 2014 and was part of the team that reached the 2019 Vitality Blast final, narrowly missing out on retaining the title.

He achieved an impressive 223 first-class wickets at an average of 29.54, including seven instances of taking five wickets in a single innings.

Morris was recognised with the prestigious Dick Lygon Award in 2019, as well as being voted the Supporters’ Association Player of the Year. Sadly, he was forced to retire earlier this summer due to a knee injury.

However, Morris was not only an outstanding player but also a true team player, earning immense popularity among his teammates and club members.

Fanos Hira, Chair of Worcestershire, stated: “Charlie has given distinguished service to our club, both on and off the field. Despite his unfortunate retirement due to injury, he remains an active member of our staff until the end of the season.

“I am delighted to announce that our club acknowledges Charlie’s invaluable contributions, and on 1st September, we will hold a dinner in his honour.

“We eagerly anticipate the support of our members and supporters for this event.”

Expressing his gratitude, Charlie Morris said: “I would like to extend my thanks for organising this gala dinner and express my gratitude to all the members and supporters.

“I have spent the most wonderful ten years at this club, and the support I have received has been truly remarkable. This place holds a special significance.

“You aspire to play cricket here. It is a close-knit club, boasting an iconic view and a unique dressing room where everyone feels welcome and shares a great camaraderie.”

The dinner will commence at 6pm for 6.30pm and will be hosted by Frank Watson, the cricket commentator from BBC Hereford & Worcester.

The evening will feature a two-course meal, a question and answer session with Charlie Morris and other guest speakers, and an auction of donated items, including contributions from England’s Jos Buttler.

Tickets, priced at £55 each or £500 for a table of ten, can be purchased online by clicking the button below, calling the Ticketing department on 01905 337921 or in-person at main reception in The View.
