FOUR WICKET BURST FOR LEACH AS SECONDS REGISTER OPENING T20 WIN

Joe Leach helped Worcestershire Seconds secure their first win in the 2023 T20 tournament with a four-wicket burst against Somerset Seconds at Barnt Green.

Somerset needed 16 from the final over bowled by Leach to overhaul Worcestershire’s total of 168-7 after they had elected to bat.

But Leach picked up three wickets with the first, second and sixth deliveries to finish with overall figures of 4-0-23-4.

Ben Gibbon and Dillon Pennington, who shared the new ball, returned impressive analysis of 4-0-21-2 and 4-0-26-2.

Matthew Waite (1-35) and Josh Baker (1-36) were also amongst the wickets after Somerset had reached 122-3 in the 15th over.

Worcestershire were indebted to an unbroken stand of 53 in 5.1 overs between Henry Cullen (36 not out) and Rehaan Edavalath (15 not out)

Cullen faced only 21 balls and struck one six and five fours.

The keeper-batter and Edavalath gave the innings a timely boost after Worcestershire had slipped from 98-3 to 115-7.

Olly Cox (20), Taylor Cornall (25) and Gareth Roderick (20) made useful runs.
