HEAD COACH SAYS BEN GIBBON “LIVING THE DREAM” AFTER EXTENDING STAY AT NEW ROAD

Worcestershire Head Coach Alan Richardson says pace bowler Ben Gibbon is “living the dream” after he extended his stay at New Road for a further three years.

Gibbon had one year left of his current deal but has signed a new contract until the end of the 2025 campaign.

The 22-year-old, who had previously played National Counties Cricket for Cheshire, is relishing life as a professional cricketer after spending three years working on a building site.

The Chester-born player made his debut in the LV=Insurance County Championship match against Durham at New Road last summer.

Left armer Gibbon featured in seven Championship matches and ended with 20 wickets, including a career-best of 4-87 against Glamorgan at Sophia Gardens, and also appeared in five One Day Cup matches.

Richardson said: “Ben is learning his trade. He is very raw in terms of experience of even being in and around a professional environment, and he is learning all the time.

“He is another one who puts his heart and soul into the game. He is living the dream for himself, the opportunity has arrived, and he loves it.

“He loves bowling. It is a real passion. So to watch him work and be part of that journey, as a club, we are really excited.

“He’s had a good winter playing club cricket in Australia and taken in a different team’s culture, different lifestyle, huge learning for him and one he has really enjoyed.

“We hope all the young players mature into really valuable members of the squad and also the club as a whole.

“Ben is at the start of that journey, and it was terrific watching him play last year and to watch him realise his dream.”
