MORE IMPORTANT CONTRIBUTIONS FROM RAPIDS SIGNING SANTNER HELP SET UP VICTORY PUSH

Worcestershire 2023 overseas signing, Mitchell Santner, played an important role in Northern Districts push for victory during the Plunket Shield encounter with Wellington at Hamilton.

Santner, who will play for the Rapids in the Vitality Blast, picked up two key wickets as Northern Districts established a first innings lead of 184.

The all-rounder then struck a quickfire 37 as Northern Districts opted not to enforce the follow on and raced to 206-8 declared from 41 overs.

Wellington were set a 391 target and will start the final day on 17-1.

Santner’s contribution followed on from his 177 runs and eight wickets in last week’s victory over Central Districts.

The left armer trapped opener Rachin Ravindra lbw for 48 to end a stand of 79 with Muhammed Abbas, who was threatening to rescue Wellington from 31-3 in reply to Northern Districts 405.

He then ended two hours of defiance from Michael Snedden in dismissing him for 24 as Wellington were bowled out for 221.

Santner bowled an excellent line and length to finish with figures of 26-1-46-2.

He came to the wicket at 30-3 in Northern Districts’ second innings and added 69 with keeper Tim Seifert (57).

Santner ended as his side’s second-highest scorer and hit two sixes and three fours.

He bowled three overs for four runs as Wellington reached the close for the loss of Ravindra (5) for the second time in the day.
