WOMEN’S RAPIDS BID FOR MORE GLORY IN T20 AND 50 OVER COMPETITIONS

Worcestershire Women’s Rapids will launch their bid for more glory this summer with an ECB County T20 Group Two doubleheader against Staffordshire at Stafford on Sunday, April 16.

The Rapids enjoyed a successful 2022 campaign, winning the T20 Group Two competition and finishing runners-up in the 50-over West Midlands Regional Cup.

There were many outstanding performances, with Georgina Macey and Flora Bertwhistle finishing as leading run-scorer and wicket-taker, respectively.

Two of the squad in Ellie Anderson and Charis Pavely earned a spot in the England Under-19 side which reached the ICC T20 World Cup final in South Africa.

Rapids captain, Chloe Hill, says the players will go into the 2023 programme of fixtures full of confidence.

She said: “The team played some excellent cricket last summer with lots of different people chipping in with substantial contributions.

“Had we been able to field a full side in the final of the Regional Cup, there would have been every chance of competing a double.

“Those experiences of playing in the latter stages of competitions can only stand everyone in good stead in terms of their development.

“It was also amazing for the group to see Ellie and Charis play in a World Cup final – and an incentive to everyone as to what may happen if they perform well.”

The Rapids will play both of their T20 Group Two home doubleheaders – against Warwickshire and Leicestershire – at Bromsgrove Cricket Club.

In the Regional Cup, Cricket Wales, Birmingham Bears and Staffordshire will provide the opposition.
