FIVE WICKET HAUL FOR RAPIDS SIGNING SANTNER TO FOLLOW ON FROM HUNDRED

Worcestershire 2023 signing Mitchell Santner followed his career-best 136 with a five-wicket haul as Northern Districts continued to dominate the Plunket Shield encounter with Central Districts at Mount Maunganui.

The New Zealand all-rounder, who will be a key part of the Rapids squad in the Vitality Blast this summer, instigated a run out and picked up the final three wickets as Central Districts, who resumed on 190-6, were dismissed for 245 in their first innings.

Santner finished with excellent figures of 26.1-3-51-5 with his left arm spin to help earn his side a first-innings lead of 268.

He was involved in the first dismissal of the day in running out Josh Clarkson (13) and then sent back Brett Randell (5), Ajaz Patel (3) and century-maker Brad Schmulian (108) in quick succession.

Central Districts opted not to enforce the follow on and instead plundered 194-7 from just 30.2 overs before declaring.

Santner came to the wicket at 45-3 and again made an important contribution with the bat hitting 41 off just 36 balls.

He struck two sixes and four fours to take his match run aggregate to 177.

He added 77 for the fourth wicket with Bharat Popli (70) before being fourth out at 122.

Central Districts were set 463 to win, and Santner came on first change and bowled opener Ben Smith (4) with 18 on the board.

He ended the day with 9-4-12-1 as Central Districts closed on 71-2 with one day remaining.
