HAYNES FOLLOWS TONGUE IN EARNING LIONS CALL-UP FOR ODI SERIES

Worcestershire batter Jack Haynes has been added to the England Lions squad for the forthcoming ODI Series in Sri Lanka.

Haynes has followed in Worcestershire team-mate Josh Tongue’s footsteps in earning the call-up.

The duo were originally selected for the red ball leg of the tour, which involved two Tests against Sri Lanka ‘A’ in Galle.

But now they will also be part of the squad for three ODIs in Colombo on February 15, 18 and 21.

Haynes has already made his mark with the bat in Sri Lanka.

He scored two half-centuries against the Board X1 and then 16 and 43 in the opening Test.

Worcestershire Head Coach, Alan Richardson, said: “Really pleased that Jack is going to have more opportunities with the Lions.

“You can only benefit from such experiences going forward with your career.

“Jack did well last summer, scoring three red-ball hundreds, but he is also an important part of our white-ball side.

“This tour will have been a real learning curve for Jack and Josh in their development and delighted for the pair of them.”

Tongue made his Lions Test debut in the second Test and picked up eight wickets in the game.
