WOMEN’S RAPIDS DUO HELP ENGLAND TOP GROUP IN ICC T20 WORLD CUP

Worcestershire Women’s Rapids duo Charis Pavely and Ellie Anderson are through to the Super Six stages of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in South Africa after helping England top Group B with a 100% record.

The Rapids duo have played in two of the three group matches in Potchefstroom, their first taste of Under-19 action for their country.

Pavely featured in the opening two fixtures, scoring 45 and 13 against Zimbabwe and Pakistan, respectively.

Anderson picked up 1-4 from two overs against Zimbabwe and, after being rested against Pakistan, returned today (Thursday) with the first breakthrough in England’s 138-run win over Rwanda.

She took the new ball and struck with the fourth ball of her second over in bowling Rwanda keeper-batter Merveille Uwase for nought with ten on the board.

Anderson bowled three overs for 13 runs in her opening spell and was not required again as England dismissed their opponents for 45 in 17 overs.

Liberty Heap (64) and captain Grace Scrivens (51) had put on 124 for the first wicket in England’s total of 183-5 after they had elected to bat.

The Super Sixes will be split into two groups, with the top two teams in each section going through to the semi-finals on January 27.
