WOMEN’S RAPIDS DUO IMPRESS ON ENGLAND UNDER-19 DEBUT IN WORLD CUP OPENER

Worcestershire Women’s Rapids duo Charis Pavely and Ellie Anderson made their England Under-19 debut in the resounding 174-run win over Zimbabwe in their opening ICC Women’s Under-19 T20 World Cup match in Potchefstroom.

The pair, key figures in the Rapids successful 2022 season, both made their mark in a remarkable game in which Zimbabwe were bowled out for 25 in reply to England’s 199-4

Pavely came to the wicket at 93-2 in the 10th over after England captain Grace Scrivens had elected to bat and showed no nerves in smashing 45 off 26 balls.

She struck one six and six fours and added 87 for the third wicket with Niamh Holland (59) in 8.1 overs.

Pavely was eventually fourth out with the total on 184, and with a strike rate of 173.07.

Anderson shared the new ball with Lizzie Scott, and she made the second breakthrough with seven on the board in dismissing Kay Ndiraya (2).

It was an all-Worcestershire dismissal, with Pavely holding onto the catch.

Anderson had figures of 2-0-4-1 and was not required again as Zimbabwe crumbled to Scrivens (4-2-2-4) and were bowled out in 12 overs.

England are next in action against Pakistan at the same venue on Tuesday.
