Kadeer Ali says young Worcestershire batting duo Rehaan Edavalath and Olly Cox will reap the benefits of full-time training during the second half of the winter when the players report back after the festive break.
The pair have spent the last three months abroad but will now have the opportunity to work day in and day-out with the New Road coaches after signing their first professional rookie contracts with Worcestershire.
Edavalath, the Worcestershire 2022 Academy Player of The Year, has been working with two leading cricket academies in India, the Karnataka Institute of Cricket in Bangalore and the CSK Academy in Chennai.
Cox played in the Pakistan Junior T20 League before participating in the International Cricket Programme in Sydney and playing grade cricket for Eastern Suburbs CC, scoring a century on his debut against Gordon CC.
Worcestershire Assistant Head Coach, Kadeer, worked closely with Cox and Edavalath as Second Eleven Coach last summer.
He said: “Rehaan and Olly have enjoyed some great experience abroad this winter, and when they start back with us in January, the day-in, day-out training, just being around the lads, is going to hugely beneficial for them.
“We’ve got a programme planned out for them regarding training, and it will be a new thing for them training every day.
“But they would have had snippets of that with the Academy, where the coaches have put together a fantastic programme.
“The guys are in two or three times a week then, and this nudges it up a little more. The intensity will rise a little bit now with the pros, so it will be great for them.
“They will be able to have some real quality time with the coaches and work on anything they need to improve on and keep building on.”
The Worcestershire players and staff report back for training at Malvern on January 5.
