WORCESTERSHIRE STAR AZHAR NOW LEADING RUN-SCORER IN AZAM TROPHY

Azhar Ali helped Central Punjab secure a first innings lead of 112 in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy top three battle against Sindh in Rawalpindi and he is now the leading run-scorer in the competition.

Worcestershire’s 2023 signing made an accomplished 48 to take his run tally in the tournament to 551 in five games since leaving New Road in September.

His superb contributions for third placed Central Punjab, including three centuries, have come at an average of 91.83.

Azhar put on 62 for the second wicket with Abid Ali and, after slumping to 159-6, Central Punjab recovered to 305 from 95.5 overs.

Sindh, currently lying in second spot, had been dismissed for 188 in their first innings after electing to bat.

But they then replied with 300-4 in their second innings – a lead of 183 overall – heading into the final day.

It is a hectic schedule with 10 four-day group games played between September 27 and November 23.

The top two will contest the final from November 26 to 30.
