RODERICK HITS HALF CENTURY AND CULLEN HELD UP BY WEATHER

Gareth Roderick struck a half-century to help Green Point CC to a three-wicket win over Ottoman CC in a Western Province Premier Division encounter.

The Worcestershire keeper-batter top-scored with 62 as Green Point reached their 234 target with four balls to spare.

Roderick came in at number three and hit one six, and six fours in his 77-ball knock as Green Point recovered from 28-3.

He put on 93 for the fourth wicket with Gerry Van Vuuren before he was fifth out at 123, and then contributions down the order saw Green Point home in 49.2 overs.

Roderick had earlier claimed three catches – including one to dismiss top-scorer Ismael Prince for 82 – and a run out as Ottoman totalled 233 all out in 47.2 overs after being put into bat.

Worcestershire keeper-batter Henry Cullen has been a victim of the weather since flying out to Australia for the winter.

Cullen is scheduled to play for Plenty Valley CC in Melbourne and linked up with them in early October.

But he and his new team-mates have so far experienced FOUR consecutive washouts as the rain, which has affected part of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, has also taken its toll on club cricket.

The Victorian Sub District Cricket Association decided to call off all this weekend’s games on Thursday.

Cullen said: “I’ve managed to train quite a bit indoors and outdoors, but it just rains as we get closer to a Saturday.

“I missed the first week’s fixtures before I got out here, and overall, five rounds of games have been called off and four I would have been involved in.

“Hopefully, the weather will improve over the next couple of weeks.”
