WORCESTERSHIRE BATTER OLLY COX HELPS WARRIORS REACH KNOCKOUT STAGES IN PAKISTAN

Worcestershire batter, Olly Cox, helped Mardan Warriors to reach the knockout stages of the inaugural Pakistan Junior T20 League held in the Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore.

Cox flew out to Pakistan at the end of the 2022 domestic season, in which his performances for Worcestershire earned him a professional rookie contract at New Road.

He was one of only five English players selected in the draft in early September, with one of the others, Somerset’s George Thomas, his Warriors team-mate.

Cox played a couple of important knocks, and in the Warriors’ first game of the tournament, his 19 not-out saw them over the finishing line against Gujranwala Giants.

The Warriors went through to the latter stages of the competition after winning three of their five matches and finishing third in the six-team group.

In Eliminator One, Cox came in at number four, and his 26 not out enabled the Warriors to defeat Rawalpindi Raiders by six wickets with eight balls to spare.

He had the distinction of hitting the winning boundary.

But Warriors were unable to repeat their performance in Qualifier 2 to decide who went through to the final.

Cox was dismissed for ten, and the Bahawalpur Royals chased down a total of 132-9 to win by nine wickets.

A total of 19 matches were played during 17 days, all at the Gaddafi Stadium.

Cox, who is 19 next month, will now fly back to England with Worcestershire due to report for pre-season training on November 14.
