RODERICK FOLLOWS IN HAYNES FOOTSTEPS IN HEADING TO CAPE TOWN

Worcestershire keeper-batter, Gareth Roderick, has returned to South Africa for the winter to play for Green Point CC in the Western Province Premier League.

Durban-born Roderick has followed in the footsteps of Worcestershire batter Jack Haynes who had a two month spell with Green Point last winter.

Green Point was founded in the 1890s and is one of the oldest clubs in South Africa.

Roderick will be looking to continue the excellent form demonstrated for Worcestershire during the second half of the 2022 season.

He scored a career best 172 not out against Glamorgan at Cardiff and then hit another century versus Nottinghamshire at New Road.

Green Point announced Roderick’s signing on their official website, “We are excited to welcome Gareth Roderick to the Pointers for the upcoming season as our overseas professional.

“He is originally from Durban and is looking forward to getting stuck into some action with Green Point CC.

“A great continuation with Worcestershire after Jack Haynes came over this year. We just had to bring another of their players to Cape Town.

“With over 5,000 first class runs and the ability behind the stumps, we are looking forward to welcoming Gareth.”

Roderick will play his first game on Saturday.
