WOMEN’S RAPIDS DUO SELECTED BY ENGLAND FOR ICC UNDER-19 T20 WORLD CUP

Worcestershire Women’s Rapids duo Ellie Anderson and Charis Pavely have been included in the England Under-19s squad for the inaugural ICC Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup.

The tournament, which has been twice postponed because of COVID-19, will take place in South Africa in January 2023.

All-rounders Anderson and Pavely were selected after competing in the School Games at Loughborough last month in England Trial matches.

The pair were part of the successful Women’s Rapids side, which won the ECB T20 County Cup Group Two and finished runners-up in the West Midlands Regional Cup this summer.

Anderson, who is 19 on October 30, won the Rapids 2022 Young Player Of The Year award at Worcestershire’s end-of-season Gala Dinner.

She played an important part in the Rapids ECB County Cup triumph with 3-20 in the final and was her side’s second-highest wicket-taker in 2022.

Pavely, who is 18 on October 25, chipped in with important runs and wickets.

The two were also members of the initial Central Sparks Academy intake for 2021.

Worcestershire Assistant Coach, Ryan D’Oliveira, said: “It’s great news for the two Worcestershire players who have both come through the Pathway here and now going on to achieve higher honours.

“It is a testament to their character as young cricketers for earning this recognition

“Ellie’s bowling has come on massively over the past three years, and she is now a huge asset to the Rapids and Central Sparks Academy.

“She is reliable with the ball and the bat and works hard in whatever situation.

“Charis is a hard-hitting batter who, over the past few years, has developed her batting in becoming more attuned to any situation.

“Her bowling will work well on the pitches she will hopefully be playing on, and she will blow the opposition away with her fielding.”

England will launch their campaign against Zimbabwe in Potchefstroom on January 15 and play Pakistan (January 17) and Rwanda (January 19) at the same venue.

The leading teams will then go into a Super Six, and there will be two semi-finals before the final at Potchefstroom on January 29.
