WORCESTERSHIRE SAD TO ANNOUNCE DEATH OF FORMER FIRST TEAM SCORER

Worcestershire CCC are sad to announce the death of their former official first team scorer, Wally Clarke.

Wally replaced Sam Hale in the role during the early 2000s and the highlight of his career was scoring for Worcestershire in the 2003 C and G Trophy final against Gloucestershire at Lord’s.

He had previously been the County’s Second Eleven scorer, taking over from Sam Hale after his promotion into the first team role in 1998.

After being replaced as first team scorer by Neil Smith, Wally was the friendly ‘meet and greet’ face for members in the Graeme Hick Pavilion for several years.

He was also well known for umpiring in local league cricket, officiating in County Second X1 cricket and also in a match during the 1982 ICC Trophy.

Wally, a very genial and helpful character, was also an instructor for the Association of Cricket Umpires and Scorers courses.

Worcestershire send condolences to Wally’s surviving family members.
