SHORT AND LONG TERM BENEFITS OF MITCHELL STANLEY’S EXPERIENCE WITH THE HUNDRED

Bowling Coach Alan Richardson believes Worcestershire pace bowler Mitchell Stanley can only benefit in the short and long term as a player from his experiences with Manchester Originals in The Hundred.

Stanley has played in three matches already and now the Originals are gearing up for Friday’s Eliminator with London Spirit at the Ageas Bowl, with the winners facing Trent Rockets in Saturday’s final at Lord’s.

It follows on from his six appearances for the Rapids in the Vitality Blast when he was often entrusted with bowling in the initial powerplay and picked up some prized wickets.

Richardson, who is also Assistant Coach, said: “Hopefully the Hundred experience is one he is really enjoying. I’ve had a bit of communication with him and it seems to have gone really well.

“When we were up at Old Trafford for the Royal London Cup, I spoke to their coaches. He hadn’t played a game at that stage but they could obviously see some potential with Mitchell.

“For the guys who are exposed to The Hundred, they will have lots and lots of different experiences but they will always come back having learnt something.

“With Mitch, and the games he has gone onto play, you’d hope he will have pushed on again from when he left.

“We might see some short term gains but I’m sure we will see some long term ones from it as well.”

Richardson added: “You have the chance to try and feed off people like Jos Buttler, and the challenge of playing against some very good cricketers, and the challenge of playing on TV every single time, in front of big crowds.

“If Mitch has really enjoyed that, and managed to cope with that, then that will make him an even better player.”
