REHAAN HITS THIRD CENTURY IN ECB COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP TO EARN ACADEMY FIRST INNINGS LEAD

Rehaan Edavalath scored his third century in the ECB Under-18 County Championship this summer to earn Worcestershire Academy a first innings lead after day two of the game with Somerset at Taunton Vale.

Edavalath batted all day for a splendid 171 not out to steer Worcestershire to 307-7 from 94 overs by the close, a lead of 39 heading into the final day.

He has so far been at the crease for a 357 minutes and struck one six and 23 fours in his 253 ball innings.

It followed on from his 172 not out against Northamptonshire and 125 versus Gloucestershire earlier in the competition.

He reached his first 50 off 89 balls, went to his century from 152 deliveries and brought up his 150 from 223 balls.

Edavalath, who signed his first professional rookie contract at New Road last month, helped Worcestershire recover from 0-2 yesterday evening.

After light rain delayed the start by 45 minutes, Edavalath put on 114 for the fourth wicket with Oliver Halion (26) and then 62 for the sixth with Ben Clarke (23).

Myles Holland (23 not out) accompanied him in an unbroken partnership of 52 to lift Worcestershire past Somerset’s first innings total of 268 all out in 86.4 overs.
