ACADEMY SPINNER DAVIDSON SIGNS SHORT-TERM PROFESSIONAL ROOKIE CONTRACT

Promising Worcestershire spinner, Olly Davidson, has signed a one-month professional rookie contract.

The Scotland international, who celebrated his 18th birthday last week, is available to be part of the squad for the Rapids Royal London Cup campaign.

Davidson is set to link up with the Rapids for Sunday’s encounter against Yorkshire at Scarborough.

He is a member of the 2021-2022 Academy intake, and it is a similar scenario to last summer when Ben Parker and Henry Cullen were part of the Royal London Cup squad and gained valuable experience.

Davidson enjoyed a successful campaign for Scotland Under-19s at the ICC World Cup in the West Indies last winner and made his senior debut in the ODI against UAE at Pearland in June.

He then picked up eight wickets on his Second Eleven Championship debut against Nottinghamshire at Notts Sports Club.

Fellow left-arm spinner, Josh Baker, was unavailable for Friday’s meeting with Hampshire at the Ageas Bowl because of a sore back.

Assistant Coach Alan Richardson, who is overseeing the Royal London Cup campaign with Kadeer Ali, said: “Olly has played one Seconds game in which he did well and has shown some good stuff in age group and club cricket.

“He has a skill set which is the same as Josh, and it gives Olly an opportunity in and around the squad, where he may or may not play a game.

“Henry and Ben really benefitted from last year’s experience.”
