JACK HAYNES WINS WCCSA PLAYER OF THE MONTH AWARD FOR MAY

Jack Haynes was the winner of the Worcestershire County Cricket Supporters’ Association Player of the Month for May..

The Worcester-born batter polled 44% of the votes after a memorable run of form.

Haynes scored his maiden first class century in the LV=Insurance County Championship match with Durham at New Road.

He then followed it up with further hundreds versus Derbyshire at the Incora County Ground and Leicestershire at New Road.

The 21-year-old also hit a half century in the opening Vitality Blast match with Yorkshire Vikings at Headingley.

Haynes said: “I’ve heard people before say scoring that first hundred is a monkey off their back and I guess it’s the same with me.

“It was a special day, one that will live long in the memory, but what was pleasing was then being able to kick on and score more big runs for the side.

“A big thanks to everyone for voting for me.”

Haynes finished ahead of runner-up Azhar Ali who also had a month to remember with four successive half centuries before a superb 225 in the home Championship match with Leicestershire.

He polled 35% of the votes and Azhar has been a great help to Haynes and many of the other Worcestershire players and slotted in perfectly as an overseas signing for 2022.

Worcestershire Women’s Rapids batter, Georgia Macey, came third with 11% after scoring three half centuries and playing a major role in winning the ECB County Championship T20 Group Two.

Jake Libby hit an excellent century to help draw the Championship game at Derby and he came fourth with 10%.

More than 1700 Members and Supporters took the time to vote and thank you for everyone who participated.

From April through to September, the chance will be there each month to select the player who has been outstanding for Worcestershire.

A shortlist of four players will be drawn up every month from which the Player of the Month can be voted for.
