Worcestershire Rapids went down by eight wickets when they returned to Vitality Blast action against Leicestershire Foxes at the Uptonsteel County Ground.
The Rapids struggled for runs and to set a decent target on a slow-looking pitch and closed their innings on 116-9.
Several players lost their wickets attempting ambitious shots.
Newcomers Kashif Ali showed glimpses of his potential in making a top score of 24.
The Rapids raised their hopes with two wickets in the first three overs – including one for debutant Mitchell Stanley.
But an unbroken stand of 101 between Arron Lilley (68) and Nick Welch (41) saw Leicestershire win in 12.1 overs.
Rapids opener Ed Pollock, keeper-batter Gareth Roderick and spinner Josh Baker returned to the side.
Rapids stand-in Blast captain, Colin Munro, won the toss and elected to bat.
Brett D’Oliveira (10) struck Matt Parkinson for six over square leg and then cut him for four, but in the same over, which yielded 15 runs, he went for a cut and was bowled.
Pollock (1) sliced a delivery from Naveen-ul-Haq to short third man, where Rehan Ahmed held onto a low diving catch.
Jack Haynes looked in good touch, hitting Wiaan Mulder for a huge six over wide long-on and then playing a classy stroke in lofting Ben Mike over cover to the boundary.
But he became the third wicket to fall when on 13 in picking out long off against the bowling of Naveen.
Worcestershire reached 44-3 by the end of the powerplay.
Munro (15) was bowled when attempting to swing Callum Parkinson to leg, and Ed Barnard (15) was stumped after attempting to sweep a wideish delivery from the spinner.
Gareth Roderick (1) was caught a long-on off Mike before Dwayne Bravo and Kashif Ali added 40 for the seventh wicket.
Bravo (21) smoked Rehan Ahmed over mid wicket for six and picked up another maximum off Naveen over long off to bring up the 100 before he was caught behind.
Kashif top scored before he fell to a good catch by keeper Harry Swindells off Mike, and then Pat Brown (9) chopped on in the final over from the same bowler.
The Rapids needed early wickets, and Stanley’s first ball in senior cricket yorked Swindells for a duck.
Then Rishi Patel (5) paid the price for attempting a big hit off Brown and was bowled.
But that was the last success with the ball for the Rapids as Lilley and Welch took command and gradually accelerated.
