OPENER CORNALL SET TO MAKE DEBUT FOR WORCESTERSHIRE AT DURHAM

Taylor Cornall is set to make his senior debut for Worcestershire in the LV=Insurance County Championship match with Durham at the Seat Unique Riverside beginning on Sunday.

The left-hander is in contention to partner Jake Libby at the top of the order as Ed Pollock is still side-lined through illness.

Head Coach Alex Gidman says the opener deserves his opportunity after impressive form for the Seconds.

Cornall scored two centuries – 139 and 142 – in the Seconds Championship match with Glamorgan at Newport.

Gidman said: “Taylor has worked really hard. He has had a really good month in second team and club cricket with four hundreds.

“He deserves his opportunity. It’s a shame that Ed (Pollock) is ill, but I’m sure Taylor will do his very best to take his opportunity.”

Newcomer Kashif Ali, who has signed a contract until the end of the season, is also part of a 13-strong squad.

Worcestershire will be looking to build on their positive start to the season in red ball cricket.

They are currently lying in third spot in Division Two after two wins, one defeat and three draws from their opening six matches.

Gidman said: “It has been a challenging fortnight, and every team has challenging times, but we are looking forward to the Durham game, and after six games, we are in a really good position in the Championship.

“We are really excited about the forthcoming game and taking the opportunities in front of us from a Championship perspective.”
