SHARLAND IN FORM WITH BAT AS ACADEMY TRIUMPH OVER CRICKET WALES

Charlie Sharland struck 60 off 46 balls as Worcestershire Academy (Under-18s) defeated Cricket Wales by six wickets in a T20 encounter at Port Talbot CC.

Sharland hit one six and four fours and, when he was finally dismissed, Worcestershire were only six runs away from their 123 target which was achieved with 15 balls to spare.

Wicket-keeper Luke Powell, with 37 off 22 deliveries with seven boundaries, helped Sharland in a stand of 59 for the second wicket.

Cricket Wales were bowled out for 122 in 18.5 overs are electing to bat.

Barney Fitch made the first breakthrough and then Ben Clarke (4-0-27-2) ran out top scorer Henry Hurle (40) and picked up the next two wickets.

Jack Warner then worked his way through the middle to lower order and ended with figures of 3-0-10-4 and Cricket Wales lost their last eight wickets for 39 runs.

In another T20 match, Worcestershire Academy were edged out by seven runs by Warwickshire at the same venue earlier in the day.

Warner struck an early blow and then the next three wickets fell to captain Joe Stanley (4-0-23-3).

The Bears totalled 145-6 with Fitch having figures of 4-0-28-1, Bilal Arshad 3-0-20-1 and Warner 2-0-12-1.

Haris Khan led the way for Worcestershire with 40 off 36 balls with one six and three fours and Clarke remained unbeaten on 33 from 29 deliveries with four fours.

Sixteen runs from the 19th over kept Worcestershire in the hunt but needing the same amount off the final over proved just out of reach and they closed on 138-6.
